Jason M. Tollard was charged in Winnebago County Circuit Court Wednesday with causing injury by the intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. If convicted, he faces 13 years in prison and $26,000 fine. According to police, Tollard was traveling west on West Ninth Avenue, near Oakwood Road, about 6:45 a.m.

Wednesday when he struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Tracey Patterson, 29, of Oshkosh. Both drivers suffered nonlife threatening injuries. Winnebago County Court Commissioner ordered Tollard be held on a $500 cash bond. Tollard is due back in court Dec. 8.

Woman killed by hit-run driver LAKE DELTON (AP) Sauk County deputies are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a woman in Lake Delton. Authorities say the 62- year-old victim was attempting to walk across Highway 12 about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a driver who fled the scene. She was trying to talk to a sheriff's deputy who was assisting someone else at the time. The woman was airlifted to UW Hospital in Madison, where she later died from her injuries.

Deputies are looking for a dark-colored Dodge or Chrysler minivan or SUV, with possible damage. New trial ordered for Racine man RACINE (AP)- -A Racine man who admitted shooting at three men, killing one of them, after seeing them trying to steal something from his fiancee's car has been granted a new trial. Racine County Circuit Judge Charles Constantine found that 33-year-old Adrial White had ineffective counsel when he was convicted in November 2006 of first -degree intentional homicide and attempted second- degree intentional homicide. White contended at his trial that he felt threatened and fired at the three in self-defense, though the victims were wounded in the back. School board sets timeline for superintendent search BY ADAM RODEWALD of The Northwestern A new school superintendent would be hired by late February under a tentative schedule adopted by the Oshkosh Area School District Board of Education Wednesday.

The board asked Illinois-based consulting firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, to immediately post the position as open. Initial interviews were tentatively slated for Feb. 3-5 and a final candidate would be announced the last week in February. The board left the door open to scrap this timeline, however, in favor of a targeted- or successionbased hiring process. A targeted approach allows the consulting firm to recruit individuals SEARCH TIMELINE Jan.

27: Board meets with consulting firm for initial interview planning 3-5: Initial interviews 9,10 and 12: Final interviews Week of Feb. 23: Announcement of new superintendent based on a set of desired skill sets instead of promoting the job to a large pool of candidates. A succession approach grooms a candidate, often an internal employee, during an interim period. These options will be discussed in closed session on Dec. 17.

Jim Rickabaugh, of the consulting firm, said the meeting couldn't be public because it may include discussion of specific personnel or potential employee contracts. Board member Tom McDermott said the speed of a targeted approach would be advantageous since the board already went through the traditional hiring process last spring. "Having gone through that process, we have reaffirmed the characteristics we're looking for," said board member Wayne Traska. Only board member Dan Becker indicated he would prefer the traditional approach, which exposes the district to the greatest variety of candidates. Adam Rodewald: (920) 426-6632 or More snow, cold on way to city BY DOUG ZELLMER of The Northwestern There's no immediate relief from Old Man Winter's grips for an already snow covered Oshkosh.

More of the white stuff is forecast this weekend and into next week. One to 3 inches of snow is expected on Saturday and 2 to 5 inches of snow could come our way on Monday, said Scott Cultice, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Green Bay. An estimated 4 inches of snow fell in Oshkosh Wednesday giving the city inches of snow since Nov. 24. Cultice said light snow started falling at 3:23 a.m.

Wednesday in Oshkosh with moderate snowfall from about 7 to 8:30 a.m. The snow, which was mostly light but steady in the late morning and early afternoon, stopped about 3 p.m. Normal snowfall in Oshkosh for December is about inches and 41 inches annually in the city from October through May. Snow may not be the only concern in coming days. Cultice said it's expected to turn unseasonably cold with subzero temperatures forecast in Oshkosh Thursday night and into Friday morning.

"I don't see any warm up in sight," he said. Doug Zellmer: (920) 426-6667 or Northwestern announces staff reductions The Northwestern staff The Oshkosh Northwestern announced today that it eliminated nine positions from the newspaper's staff. Tom Cooper, president and publisher of the Northwestern, said the nine positions include four that are currently open and simply will not be filled. Four other positions will be consolidated into a regional operation center in mid-April and affected Northwestern employees will be eligible to apply for positions there. One member of the newspaper's staff was laid off.

The Northwestern's parent company, Gannett announced in October that the economic crisis would require a work force reduction of 10 percent across the company. Other Gannett-owned newspapers in Wisconsin experienced similar cutbacks Wednesday. Cooper told the Northwestern staff of the cutbacks Wednesday morning. "As I have shared with you, the revenue growth we have seen in the local retail segment has not offset the impact the credit crisis has created in real estate, auto and help wanted he said. 3 people charged in murder-for-hire plot STEVENS POINT Three people are facing attempted homicide charges in what Portage County authorities say was a murder-for-hire scheme.
